How To Create A Simple Thanksgiving Table Setting

Life is already busy, and if you're hosting for the upcoming holidays you might be feeling the added stress of cooking, cleaning, shopping and decorating. I'm here to help take some stress off of you in the "decorating" department by keeping your Thanksgiving Table Setting nice and simple, yet still looking like you put hours and hours of thought and work into it.

As I've mentioned in previous posts, I'm not the go-all-out type with seasonal decor so most of my holiday decor is pretty simple and can be completely executed in one day, on the weekend, still leaving time to kick my feet up and enjoy a glass of vino.

Create A Simple Thanksgiving Table Setting

Thanksgiving is my absolute favorite holiday and we've hosted every year we've been in this house. Even the first year when we moved in two weeks prior! All thanks to the fact that I'm a serial unpacker because I can't live in chaos and disorganization.

Anyway, one thing I love to do is make our home feel extra inviting for our guests. The formal dining room is where we gather for the feast and it also happens to be the first thing our guests see when they walk in, so I have a lot of fun with that table.

Create A Simple Thanksgiving Table Setting

To create my simple Thanksgiving tablescape I shopped my house first, and then picked up a few extra goodies from Home Goods to polish it off.

The first thing I always decide on is whether I want to use a table runner, table cloth, table throw and/or placemats. Once I've got that nailed down then I decide on my centerpiece and the rest of the table is designed around that.

I kept the macrame runner and large pumpkin in the wooden bowl from my Fall Tablescape as my centerpiece, and then grabbed my indigo mudcloth throw from the living room and bunched it up between the two. Instantly LOVED it!

Next, I needed something a little smaller to flank the centerpiece and raided the pumpkins on my Fall Mantle. I placed those strategically in trios and they looked a little lonely so I wanted to add some votive candles, greenery, or floral just depending on what jumped out at me while I was shopping.

Next up are the actual place settings. Again, I wanted to keep this simple so I used the mudcloth scraps I had on hand for cloth napkins, which aren't bulky enough for napkin rings. Added to my mental shopping list was rosemary sprigs or some sort of greenery to tie in twine around the napkin. As you can see I didn't have any luck finding faux herbs so I purchased a large stem and cut it up, then added faux gold leaves.

The flatware was purchased from Home Goods previously, and the white dishes were purchased from Dollar Tree years ago and is always what I use for the holidays. I love the shape and you can't beat the price! Last up to finish things off are my favorite stemmed red wine glasses - also purchased from Home Goods. Can you tell they are my go-to choice for table decor? HA!!

At this point it was time to go shopping for a few final items:

  • Sprigs for the napkins
  • Greenery or floral
  • Votive Candles

My shopping trip was a total success and I'm so pleased with the final product. I found the votive candles and paper flowers at Home Goods, and the napkin decor is from Michael's.

This table is all ready for our Thanksgiving gathering, and all of the shoppable items are linked below!
