Modern Guest Bathroom Renovation on a Budget – One Room Challenge REVEAL

The week we’ve all been anxiously awaiting is here! I’m revealing my modern guest bathroom renovation on a budget, along with the One Room Challenge featured designers and other guest participants who have worked so hard to transform a room over the past 6 weeks.

I’ll try to keep the talking to a minimum because I’m sure most of you have already skipped past this and went straight to the photos anyway - LOL. I get it! No judgment here.

If you follow me on Instagram then you may have seen my post saying I finished a week early. That wasn’t to make any of the other participants feel anxious, or to come off as an overachiever. It was because we had a MUCH NEEDED beach vacation planned to Playa Del Carmen during the finishing week.

Not a bad reason to speed up the process to make the deadline.

The only thing that didn’t show up (and I’m pretty bummed about) is a framed print I ordered from Pottery Barn on April 3rd.

APRIL THIRD!! I’m spoiled by Amazon Prime, yes – but seriously, over a month for a small framed print that has yet to ship is ridiculous.

I digress. Moving on to happier things - like photos!!

Since I was on a tight budget for this guest bathroom renovation, I kept the structural pieces in place (tub/shower, vanity, floor) and updated them.

Almost every item I used in this renovation is under $100.

The good news about the mirror: I wanted a gold framed hexagonal mirror and I found this one online at Lamps Plus which happened to the be the exact size I needed and was on sale for $80.

The bad news about the mirror: It sold out shortly after I purchased it and I can’t find that exact one an-y-where for you guys. Sad face.

I painted the vanity Dunn Edwards Black Spruce (DE6308), added 4-inch foot moulding stained in Minwax Golden Oak to each side for a slightly more custom look, and installed modern gold hardware from Target.

I contemplated building new shaker style cabinet faces but decided to paint the current cabinets first to see if I liked it, and I did!

I added a new shower curtain, matte black rod and bath mat to the existing shower/tub combo rather than replacing the tub altogether since that’s not currently in the budget (or timeline!).

I also removed the towel rack and went with four matte black hooks and grey striped Turkish bath towels.

You can read all about the new flooring install process and my opinion on it in the Guest Bathroom Renovation Progress – Affordable Flooring {One Room Challenge Week 5} post.

The rest of the process was the fun part – decorating! Get ready to get bombed with photos you can PIN for later…

Overstock has a great selection of modern gold and matte black pieces that worked really well with the overall look I wanted to achieve, and you can get links to all of those items in the Guest Bathroom Renovation Progress - One Room Challenge Week 4 post.

Going into this modern guest bathroom renovation I knew I wanted green cabinets and a concrete countertop, but because of the cabinet color I wanted a bright countertop.

When The Compound Concrete did the countertop for my builder grade master bathroom makeover under $2k last year, we also discussed doing the countertop for this bathroom when the time came. Luckily they can do white concrete so I didn’t have to veer away from this affordable custom countertop solution.

I am smitten with the contrast of this countertop with the matte black faucet.

Thank you all so much for following along with my modern guest bathroom renovation and keeping me on track. I hope you got a small bit of inspiration from this process, and hopefully you’ll try something new or tackle a project you may have been afraid to start.

If you get creative, you don’t have to spend a fortune to update outdated spaces in your home!

Much love,
Christina

Love, love this bathroom makeover. Please tell me where you got the gold basket that is holding your toilet paper and the q tip/cotton ball container. Thank you.

Thank you so much, Tricia! Those are both from Overstock and you can find direct links to both in my Week 4 progress post by clicking here. xo

So is the counter too concrete? Did they make it special to fit your existing vanity? Or did you porches it like this?

Hi Denisse! The concrete countertop was custom made for our vanity. Much more cost effective than a stone slab!

Hi! I am wanting to try these tiles in a bathroom in my house and I am wondering what you did for the transition between the peel and stick tile and the flooring you have outside the bathroom? I have tile like you that I am just going to cover and then I have carpet outside the bathroom. Do need anything to cover the edge or are they thin enough the carpet will line up? Thanks do much for your help and I am so glad I found this post because your bathroom is beautiful and was some much needed inspiration for me!

Aw! I'm so happy you got inspired by this!! I have wood laminate outside the bathroom so I used the existing transition that was already there, but these are only 1/4" thick so they might be thing enough that the transition will be OK from carpet to this.

I am trying to decide by this paint and chalk paint for my vanity. How many coats did you have to use?

Two coats. :)

What type of paint do you use?

Dunn Edwards Suprema Velvet Latex. There's more info on the paint process in the following post: https://www.cghomeinteriors.com/blog/guest-bathroom-renovation-progress-one-room-challenge-week-2

Love the transformation, congrats!!!! May I ask where is the lamp from? I love it :-)

Thank you, Gemma! It's from Overstock and I have it linked in one of the progress posts if you'd like to visit that for convenience - https://www.cghomeinteriors.com/blog/guest-bathroom-renovation-progress-one-room-challenge-week-4. XO
